An unboring coffee table

Is "unboring" a word? Who cares?!

This cool coffee table is called "Triangolazioni" -- and it is really cool. I think it's named after "triangles" because of the designer was inspired by his grandmother's late 19th-century poems about island hoping in the days before commercial shipping. What do you think is the inspiration for this table's name?

Check it out here -- it costs around $1,064.

A cool British store

We just discovered this cool British store/company called Rose & Grey -- which sells cool vintage furniture at pretty decent prices. In fact, that is their motto, if you will. Why must everything cool be super expensive, after all?

We really liked their Mixed Up Side Table. It's kind of country chic or something and reminds us of something from the Dutch company Droog!

Something "delicious"

Check out these cool storage units/containers fashioned and inspired by New York City hot dog containers! I happen to think, despite how disgusting they are and what they are made of, that hot dogs are delicious. The smell of a hot dog when walking down a street in Manhattan instantly puts me in a trance. However, I recall the last two times getting really sick and feeling throw-uppy, so I don't think I'll be having hot dogs from the street again anytime soon.

Anywhoo, these storage things certainly are really cool and, indeed, "delicious!" Mathieu Lehanneur is really cool French designer. Check out his cool website, too!

Delish!

Don't Leave Me (or DLM)

What an appropriate name for an utterly cool little table. One that truly compels you not to leave it, but to bring with you whatever room you are in!

Don't Leave Me was designed by the Danish Mr. Thomas Bentzen. Mr. Bentzen, you are a new favorite of ours here at CLI! I imagine carrying Don't Bring Me to various parts of a home, either for watching TV with a nice beverage, or reading book on a comfy lounge chair, or even outside to have a nice lemonade while laying about in the sun, poolside! And it's quite small, too, and not THAT expensive at around $185. AND it comes in pastel blue, Light green, Black, White, Gray, Yellow and Oyster white.

Don't Leave Me is a definite too cool for school product. We like!

A green couch!

Check out this cool green couch called "WLA" -- I have no idea what WLA means, but I'll wager some guesses:

Works Like Apples
With Light Angles
Why Leave Again?
What Losers Ate
Willy Likes Anna

I could go on, but if you'd like to take a guess, be our guest! The winner of this contest will win 1 (one) pound of CLI's favorite cheese. Yes, that's right! We are again offering our readers a chance to win a whole pound of the most delicious cheese ever made. We will be waiting for your submissions!

So, back to the green WLA couch, it's not available yet, but if you'd like to be informed when it is, email Carl Clerkin at the site below!

I WANT this table!

First of all, any company called "Studiomama" has to be cool just because of its name. I love it! Second of all.....oh wait, there is no "second of all." What we really want to say is that this T-Table is awesome and that it would be cool if it was sold in the US and preferably at an affordable price. Alas, we are not sure where to buy this table, except from Studiomama herself. More about the studio from their website:

"Studiomama is based in London and owned by the designer Nina Tolstrup. She trained as a designer at the prestigious Les Ateliers school of industrial design in Paris and has a BA in Marketing from the Business School in Copenhagen.

Nina Tolstrup is designing products for companies while also taking a pro-active approach designing, manufacturing and selling her own ranges under the Studiomama name."

Nina, you are cool beans!

This makes me wish I was Canadian (or that I lived in Canada)

Aside from universal healthcare and a crime and murder rate that is miniscule compared to their southern neighbors, the Canadians are also good at design! Check out this cool Radio Canada from Science&Sons! The radio is cool in that it is automatically set to the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (not sure if you can listen to other stations on it) - I guess people really like the CBC. Anyway, it looks super cool and is still in the final design stages, so they are not yet available. I wonder if they will make one for US listeners. I wouldn't mind having NPR on automatic pilot!

Sweet speakers!

I just saw these awesome Glow Voice One Loudspeakers, and I am not afraid to say, it was love at first sight. They are also really eco-friendly - made from bamboo, hemp and recycled scrap wood! I'm not sure how they sound yet, but I will let you know as soon as I can. The only thing is they are quite expensive at $499. The website says the speakers feature:

* 8 ohms nominal impedance
* Two binding-post connections
* Removable metal grills
* 3" full-range driver
* Amplifier not included
* Wood, bamboo, hemp, metal, magnet
* 9.5"W, 9" diameter, 10.5"D
* Imported

Oh, and they are available in two natural wood finishes (blond and mahogany) and a variety of high gloss piano grade finishes in colors to match your GLOW Amp One (Pearl, Black, Red and Silver).

Hanger Chair!

Philippe Malouin has created the coolest thing in the world, in our humble opinion, by thinking creatively about the actual use of furniture. Ask yourself how many chairs you have in your house that you don't actually use very often. You may even have chairs in other parts of your house that barely even get used at all! That's not the case for most people living in urban areas like New York, but if you think about it, isn't that totally wasteful?

From the website:

"“Occasional furniture”. The name should be self explanatory, but it is somewhat incorrect in most cases. These pieces tend to lie around the house, stacked in a corner, or in an unused room. When space is an issue, as is the case for most European city dwellers, an object such as a folding chair will clutter up the precious available space."

When you aren't using this chair, you can hang your coats in the closet, or maybe even hang the chair on the wall? It can be quite cool-looking, we think!

A cool sideboard and other cool furniture

We at CLI came across this cool sideboard and other drawer units by a company called Apollo Modern -- I think they are Swedish. While they make look simple and maybe a little too plain, I love the cool holes used instead of knobby hardware. Don't you agree? The holes add sort of a fun dynamic, and you can even add some caster wheels!

Sidenote: We at CLI are working on a simple and functional coffee table, and are really inspired by these Apollo pieces!

Not sure where Apollo Modern is sold, but check them out here in the UK: http://www.amode.co.uk/sideboards-cupboards/apollo-modern-2-door-2-drawer-sideboard-152cm.html

Something you cannot live without

I can't believe there was a time when I had to boil water over and over again just to have a couple of cups of tea. I remember the days when I would boil water, and then have to boil it again because I couldn't drink all that water fast enough. Long gone are those days because, ladies and gentlemen, there is this awesome thing called a "Vacuum jug" that keeps water hot (and I mean steaming hot) for up to 8 hours -- even longer sometimes. This jug is soo useful, I honestly use it every single day. In fact, I cannot believe we at CLI have not written about this before? What is WRONG with us? Clearly we are not at the top of our game!

Check this baby out here: http://www.stelton.com/ProductView.aspx?id=99 -- The jugs come in many different colors! Take your pick. So far the best price I have seen is around $70-$75, but the matte finish ones are more expensive. I got mine from a place called Scandinavian Grace!

What a lamp!

Why should a lamp just be a lamp? In this day and age, everything is multi-functional, especially for those with limited space. If it isn't, well, then there's just no room for it. I have even seen some chairs double as a magazine storage (more on that later). And that's why we at CLI really like Danese Milano's "Leti" lamp, which can be used for book storage. And look how cute it is? I wish I had room for this, and an extra $350 or so. If you are interested, a bunch of online stores sell this lamp. Just google "Leti lamp" -- and let me know if you see it cheaper somewhere else. Me like!

Masahiro Minami!

This guy is awesome! He teaches design classes in Shiga, Japan. I wish I could be one of his students/disciples. I think Japanese designers really like the sort of moss or lime coloroed green, because I have seen soo many designs with these colors. It's a very soothing and relaxing color. I think I might have to make my new creation a lime green color, or something!

Anyway, check out his other work here: http://www.masahiro-minami.com/frame_set_e.html

Cut once, measure twice!

Some people are really good at coming up with cool names for their companies. Take, for example, the "Very Good and Proper" British furniture design group --- very British sounding indeed. A company like this will also be good at naming furniture, such as the table in this picture, called quite simply, "Canteen Table." I love simplicity, and I love this table, and especially the fact that you are able to pick the color for the legs! I wonder how much this costs....

Wall art

That's what I call these cool "Scene" shelving systems by Dick Spierenburg. Pure genius. Luckily, soon one of CLI's interns will be traveling to Amsterdam, and will be carrying pen, pad and camera to capture the city's design products. Hopefully she will bring us back something!

Anyway, check out Spiererburg's work here: http://www.spierenburgstudio.com/page/00products.htm

His products are sold at numerous places, but a great place is at the Mobilia Woonstudio (http://www.mobiliawoonstudio.nl/)

Something cool from Droog

Droog just opened a new store in SOHO, and aren't we New Yorkers lucky for that? I like this cool little "Strap Antracite" by NL Architects thing they have, and it's only $30! Go get one right now!!

You can use the strap for hanging shoes, magazines, brushes, socks, drum sticks, etc. If you can dream it, you can hang it! I might get one to hold magazines or books or something. Fantastic! They come in green, blue, red and white!!
